The black, white and red color palette is pulled from Boston Calling Festival’s history of using these three colors as their brand colors. To create a bold look, the poster adopts a thick typeface and overlaps the type to create a suggestive skyline of the festival city, Boston. For the intricate element, I leaned on using thin horizontal lines to further emphasize the city skyline and create dimension using highlights and shadows. The textural background provides a canvas for the thin serif copy to compliment the boldness of the headline.

The second poster incorporates solid shapes along with a chaotic hand-drawn element to assert a bold and energetic texture to the headline ‘Boston Calling’. The tilt is to drive the emphasis of boldness. The gradient is a reference to festival lighting. The remaining copy is also tilted to unify the poster.
